Kemungkinan, hujan yang lebat yang berpanjangan jika diiikuti dengan air pasang juga mungkin akan mendatangkan banjir di kawasan yang rendah. KUCHING: There is no indication to an unusual weather in Sarawak between now and middle of March, at least for now.
State Meteorological Department director Wong Teck Kiong said the east coast of the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak were experiencing the northeast monsoon, which brings heavy rain to the coastal areas.
He said the monsoon season, which usually starts in early November would end in March.
He said the amount of rainfall was expected to increase between 20% and 40% in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and 20% in Sarawak.
“A few episodes of two to three days of continuous heavy rain are expected to occur in some parts of the state. If it happens, flood may occur, especially in the low-lying areas and where the drainage system is poor,” he told The Star yesterday.
He said the department would remain alert for any eventualities.
“We will monitor the weather pattern every day and if there is any indication of unusual weather phenomena, we will keep the public informed,” he said.
